What I did.

This was one of the most collaborative music compositions I’ve ever worked on. It started from just a kick drum that the animatic was synced to, and carried all the way through to the visuals and the arrangement building up, breaking down and building back up again. The whole thing is synergy personified: one couldn’t exist without the other. The brief was to give the vibes of 80s dance music, and New Order “Blue Monday” is one of my favourites, so it seemed like the natural choice.

I also handled all of the sound effects, then mixed and mastered the finished trailer, so the music, sound effects and animation sit as one piece rather than three separate jobs.

This was white label work through Element Animation.

What happened.

The trailer has reached 17.9M views, and the music has since become the official anthem for Minecraft Live. It has been remixed countless times, every year since.

The comments are the best proof of what the music did. People wrote about the bop, the dancing mobs and the frogs, and the most-liked comment on the video, with over 16,000 likes, asks for the track to be a music disc in the game that makes every mob vibe along.

What people said.

The anthem, remixed.

Sections of my composition have been remixed into the official Minecraft Live music since, by other composers. These are some of those releases.
